Error Detection and Correction |
Module Type: |
Optional |
Module Code: |
964 |
Syllabus: |
Introduction to error correction codes, Linear codes, coding and decoding, Hamming code,
Introduction to BCH codes, cyclic codes, MDS (Maximum Distance Separable) codes, Reed-Muller
codes (first and second order). Viterbi algorithm, TCM (Trellis Coded Modulation). |
Module Aims-Objectives: |
The scope of this module is to provide students with basic knowledge in the field of error
detection and correction as used in noise reduction and transmission in telecommunications.
Information coding and decoding methods are discussed along with some contemporary coding schemes.
Upon completing this module students will be aware of the techniques used for coding and decoding
the information in order to have the minimum possible losses in the transmission process.
They will be acquainted with the most common methods used along with the latest breakthroughs in the field. |
