Internet Programming
Module Type: Information Technology Track
Module Code: 734Π
Syllabus: Description of the Internet access media (telnet, email, ftp, WWW). Basic Internet network architectures (protocols (TCP/IP), servers, proxies, firewalls, bandwidth). Brief introduction to HTML. Static & Dynamic web sites. Three-layer web site architecture (browsing programme. www, www server, database). Four-layer web site architecture (browsing programme, www, www server, www applications server and database). Internet programming using Java. www applications security. Using XML language. www applications personalisation. Maintenance and development of www applications.
Module Aims-Objectives: To introduce students to Internet services and architectures and their management mechanisms, as well as explain the required programming tools and languages. Security and personalisation issues are also introduced.
Upon completing this module students should be familiar with Internet and its services and also be able to develop Internet applications using either simple markup languages like HTML or more advanced ones like Java Servlets and Java Server Pages. They should also be familiar with servers and their programming.
