Module Type: |
Telecommunications and Networks Track |
Module Code: |
543Τ |
Syllabus: |
Transistors (brief review), FET, Light Emitting Diodes, semiconductor LASER, semiconductor photo detectors,
signal converters (optical/electrical), advanced technology semiconductor systems for integrated circuit fabrication,
light propagation in wave guides, optical fibre technology, optical amplifiers, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM),
optical switching, fibre in the loop (FITL), structured cabling. |
Module Aims-Objectives: |
To teach students the technology of advanced semiconductor devices as used in telecommunications systems, as well as the technology behind optical communications.
Upon completing this module students should be able to comprehend the operation principles of the main building blocks of optical networks as well as the techniques
employed for data transmission in optical fibres. |
