Computer Architecture ΙΙ
Module Type: Special Foundation
Module Code: 422
Syllabus: Peripherals: I/P-O/P units (monitors, printers, scanners, etc), buses and ports, communication models, internetworking
Secondary storage units: Magnetic and optical disks, specifications, standards and characteristics, device drivers, read and write methods, RAID.
Parallel architsectures and systems: SIMD, MIMD, VLIW architectures, RISC, SISC, superscalar architectures, multi processing systems, array processors, pipelines, PLDs, PLAs, RAID architectures, memory sharing systems.
Digital design with CAD: VLSI design, real time embedded systems design, digital system design with VHDL.
Integrated systems: Integrated systems development technologies, control and processing circuits, case studies.
Module Aims-Objectives: To provide in depth knowledge in the topics of distributed computer systems’ organisation and operation, as well as in networking topologies. Upon completing this module students should be able to demonstrate a firm grasp on topics related to the design, development and troubleshooting of computer systems.
